NaNoWriMo.
I'd never heard of it until a week or two back when a friend mentioned to me.
It stands for National Novel Writing Month, and it's way for writers to get their work out there into the real world. The premise is as follows: starting at the beginning go the November, you make an account, and then it's as easy as just writing your novel! (though, god knows that's not that easy...) The goal is to reach 50,000 words by the end of the month, which is roughly the length of a typical novel. Check out their website for more info and examples of previous NaNoWriMo books here!
So anyway, I have been toying with the idea to write a book for what seems like ages. But, things would always be holding me back like, I never had enough time, or I wouldn't have any good ideas, or whatever else I could think of to avoid actually sitting down and writing. If you've been following me long enough, you should know that I am a pro when it comes to avoiding things.
It's intimidating, really. Writing a novel is hard work, and it takes time and dedication. And then there is a more than likely chance that your book will be rejected by the publishers. All thirty-five of them. Those odds don't necessarily stack up in my favor, so it's easy to see why I've been putting this off for so long. But then, when that thirty-sixth publisher likes your idea, and signs you on, it'll all have been worth it. Or at least, that's what I'm banking on.
No more avoiding. I finally have an idea. It's solid, it's interesting, it's just the right amount of confusing, and I think it could work. With NaNoWriMo, I'm setting a challenge for myself, because if I don't, then I'll never finish this book (or pretty much anything else I start, if we're being honest).
So here goes...
Wish me luck!
