9.11.2013// Slow Down
This week has been going dreadfully slow until today, when I think we all got a little wake up call concerning what day it was. Just goes to show, we shouldn’t become so wrapped up in ourselves that we forget what happens around us.
Today was an important day and I felt it appropriate that I dress up a little. Early in the morning, I among 5 fellow classmates was interviewed for Lead Consultant for our schools new writing center (we won’t know until Friday who got the position) I think this would be a great opportunity for me to show some leadership and expand my experience in the field I hope to one day work in. But, it’s a little awkward competing for a position you and a close friend both really want:P
Yesterday I went to volunteering as I do every week but I was shocked when I got there. I was working in the warehouse with one of the employees when he told me that yet another worker had left. That is 4/5 people that have left/quit since I have been volunteering. Granted, some have incredible opportunities to participate in, like my Books as Bridges coordinator left to go teach English in South Korea, but it pains me to see these people I have bonded with leave. Regardless, the worker I was in the warehouse with has no immediate plans for leaving and he’s always a riot to work it. He went to my high school, knows some of my teachers and he also gets some of my classmates as volunteers - to sum up, he and I tend to gossip a lot haha:)
Sometimes, you just need that random hour during the day to gossip, take a step back, and let your guard down.
In Remembrance:
9/11
lost;
but
never
forgotten.
