6.17.2013// Braving New Territory
So yesterday went more smoothly than I thought, with move-in and everything. Everyone was feeling the same emotions and nothing had sunk in it. Today however, was the true test of courage: our first day alone!

Can I first start off with how absolutely awesome my roommates are! We’re talking mutual interests upon mutual interests! GSP is the Promises Land for all awkward geeks/nerds. Fitting in isn’t really a problem. Our RA seems nice, a little quiet at times but sweet.

We started off the day with a Community Meeting and then headed off to our focus area. Being in Journalism and Mass Media, I didn’t really know what to expect but it could have been worse. There were of course those stereotypical guys sitting in the back who didn’t seem like they wanted to be there, but then again, I’m sure there are those in every class. Plus, I’m sort of dreading this book review we have to give tomorrow in front of the entire class. I’m talking about Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and we have to do a dramatic reading of a quote and I don’t know how they’ll respond to a drug-induced roadtrip around the country. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow:)

After our Focus Area, we headed to Seminar which is basically a huge discussion. Apparently, it’s we’re all supposed to cry. I don’t know how we’ll that’ll go over with the guys haha:)

We has a random block of free time after where we took a perimeter walk in the scorching heat and then we went to our first convocation. That basically means a speech, tonight it was Tori Murden McClure and she was awesome!! I have never heard so inspirational a worker! She has worked with mentally deficient people, run a home for homeless women, skied across Antarctica, and was the first woman to row solo across the Atlantic! If all our speakers are like her, then I’m hooked. My roommate Bria and I are determined to cover our entire dorm with post-it’s with cool quotes from people and we got so many from Tori tonight!

Then all the scholars gathered around outside to hang out before we have to be inside at 10:30. It’s really something different to get used to this schedule but we’ll adapt. Another thing is the rules, but those are bearable:) ~technically not supposed to be using Internet now oops~ Best so far I would probably say is bonding with the roommates and random people-watching in between meals and classes. The easiest thing for girls to bond over are cute guys;)

Really excited about tomorrow! We have a Club Fair and a Film Series and a roommate and I are planning on checking out the library.
