Second, I was able to actually accomplish some things, despite it being winer break! I recently found out who my competition was for my top choice, Brown, and let's just say I am not pleased. Nonetheless, I will be a good sport about it - frankly, because I have no other choice! So today, I met up with a friend (who has also read the competition's essays, hint hint nudge nudge) to perfect my essays for Brown. I was expecting a lot of hard work and plenty of coffee refills but we were actually very efficient and I was able to fix mistakes, small and big, that I hadn't even realized I had made. Now, with those almost ready to submit, I feel much more confident in myself. Afterwards, my day only kept getting better and I got to go out to lunch with one of my friends whom I hadn't seen in what seems like forever. I guess finals and the end of the semester really had consumed our finals. We caught up over delicious stir fry and we could have talked for several more hours but alas, he had to work and thus we parted ways.
However, my day did not end there! As soon as I got home, my phone lit up. Turns out, one of my closest friends received some upsetting news, and thus, it was decided that he must be cheered up. That was when myself and several others came up with the best plan to ever be planned. We were all to meet up at my house as soon as possible - the entourage for the night: myself, Sophia, Dominik, Annie, and Paige. Once we had all gathered, our first stop was the Goodwill by my house to ugly Christmas sweater shop. And ugly Christmas sweater shop we did! Now all we need to do is throw a sufficiently ugly party so we can all wear our hideously amazing sweaters... Next pitstop was a supermarket because the main event of the night was, wait for it.....a dinner party! Fancy glasses and clothes and everything! We bought all the necessities then booked it back to Sophia's house to get started cooking. Mind you, by then the time was around 8:30. Oh well, we just called it 'a european dinner' and that was that.
The fancy menu for the night:
Drinks: Sparkling Apple Cider (2 bottles were consumed in the making of this dinner party)
Appetizers: Brie with Crackers
First Course: Butternut Squash Soup with Crusty French Bread
Second Course: Roasted Potatoes with Salad with Goat Cheese
Dessert: Fresh Apple Crumble
For a dinner party planned at the very last minute, I think we pulled together a pretty darn good meal. The entire night was accompanied by 50's jazz and dancing in-between cutting vegetables, checking on the potatoes, and setting the table. Also, I like to think that our smashing night was a fantastic distraction from any crappy news anyone might have received recently. Thus, it was a win-win type of night in which the later it got, the less sense we started making, but the more we were laughing. I swear, there was something in that cider...
Joke of the night (as we listen to jazz on Pandora): "Is this Ella Fitzgerald?" "...I can't tella" Oh gosh, hahah I'm still laughing at that one! All in all, an extremely successful first day of break. Hopefully all of them are as fun as today was.
