4.10.2014// When in NYC - Day 1
And we made it! After our atrociously long trip, we have arrived in the city. New York, baby. After getting in, we booked it to the hotel, cleaned up, and immediately headed out again. However, due to our delay(s), we missed our scheduled trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island -- we'll just have to postpone those for later one. Instead, we ventured downtown to do some exploring and what not.

And now, prepare as I bombard you all with photos because I can't resist from posting them all.

It was awesome to be able to tell that this church was Gothic, with it's stained glass windows, and attached columns, and tympanum....and thank you Art History for allowing me to spew random architectural terms that probably nobody else understands haha. Good thing it was a group of us so we could all just shout excitedly at each other about everything we knew.

the obligatory wall street shot. and Tiffany & Co. was right down the street but we were moving too quick for a snapshot.

We saw Times Square, and I can now see why everybody always complains about it -- crazy crowded, people shoving flyers in your face, naked cowboys playing the guitar -- but still, incredibly exciting for someone experiencing it for the first time. ( But I'm thinking once may be enough;) ) However, we had the absolute best Cuban food I've ever eaten in this little whole in the wall place off of 47th and I have since decided that I would face the Times Square crowds and tourists just to eat there again!

Then we hit Broadway for Phantom of the Opera and saw a STUNNING performance! And what made it even better is that the lead, the Phantom, was actually played by the understudy and it was his Broadway debut!

we couldn't resist stopping for coffee. also my hair looks very short here...i'm considering just chopping it all off?
I experienced such a storage moment today as we were walking around. Soph and I were walking around with our coffees and talking about how we could both potentially end up in the city and for a moment I completely forget where I was. Not in the sense that I couldn't remember, it's just that I literally just forgot. We were walking and chatting and it seemed so normal, maybe because it was the two of us I don't know, but I had to stop and actually remind myself that we weren't back in Lexington. Like I said, it just felt natural, like it was no big deal that we were in New York gossiping over lattes because it was like we'd been doing it for years. I don't know I'm probably rambling but it just felt so right that it gave me hope for the future.

Lastly, we rounded out the night by going up the Empire State Building and catching it right as the sun was setting, so we got to see the view during the day and when it lit up during the night. Though what I didn't anticipate were the string gusts of wind and the fact that I was wearing a dress so for all those people I probably accidentally flashed -- my apologies!
