1.27.2014// When in Mexico - Day 2
Oh boy did things happen today.

First we had to start off with our 'VIP Breakfast' and propaganda tour that mom roped us into yesterday as we were checking in yesterday. *cough* I still love you mom, but gosh that tour was so long and boring *cough* The representative that showed us around was nice and all and he was Greek so we had our sister-countries to bond over, but he started his promotional talk while we were still at breakfast (which was actually incredibly delicious.) Then we followed him around as he showed us different villas and talked numbers with dad trying to sell us a membership. I'm just surprised he didn't pull the 'You know, seeing as how we're country neighbors I'll give you a special discount - not everybody gets this!' I'm shocked he didn't try that one. I probably would have haha. Regardless, poor guy did all that walking and all that talking, all for us to say no. And all the while, I kept catching glimpses of the beach and pining for the sun and the ocean.

But then, then we finally went to beach. And it was glorious (once the clouds cleared up). The temperature was in the 80's, the water was five different shades of blue, and it was warm to the touch. We took full advantage of our time and did nothing but relax in the sand for a better part of the day and I went in the water not once, but three times. I burned, but that's irrelevant because I expected nothing less.

After the sun tuckered us out and the we had enough of the wind blowing us around on the beach, we took the bus and ventured into Downtown. However, since we're rebels and all and mom seems to have gained a danger streak ever since the whole two days we've been in Mexico, we didn't go into commercial Downtown. Oh no, we went into uncharted, un-tainted by tourists Downtown - the one the concierge warned us to be careful of if we decide to visit. We went to 'Mercado 28' which is this massive warehouse pretty much in which vendors set up shop and try and get you to buy their products. This one guy even had me shake his hand and tried to get me to kiss his cheek! He wishes...

Our problems came later when on our way out of the Mercado, the sun had gone down and we were confused as to where to catch the bus back to the hotel. So we began wandering around. Bad idea. Next thing we know we're lost in the middle of downtown Cancun and we're wandering into the sketchy parts of the neighboring. Oops. Go us for not planning ahead and getting a map. I did at one point get incredibly anxious because it seemed as if we were just rotating in circles and we would see the buses we needed to be on but they wouldn't stop or they would be going the wrong way. Finally, we stopped in a gas station and I asked a very friendly attendant how the heck we could get back to our hotel. In Spanish, might I add (my teacher would be proud of me - except the fact that I used the verb 'tomar' wrong. grr.) After we had directions, it only took us another half hour to catch our bus and then once we were safely inside a nice man sat right across the aisle from me and started singing and playing the guitar. He was incredibly entertaining, especially after the night we'd had, and I greatly regret not getting a video of him.

And to wrap up the day, we had dinner and a show outside, which, the show was supposed to be a 'circus show' but it actually turned out to be a mix of The Lion King and Tarzan plus Aerobics plus partner yoga? All with hysterically colorful costumes. It sure was...something.
