Another busy day here in Berkeley! And, I finally figured out a time to call the parents, early in the morning before breakfast. So, that’s what I did this morning and moms no longer mad at me:) News writing class this morning consisted of a field trip to the downtown Berkeley Farmer’s Market!
Our job was to interview vendors and owners about their experience at the market and if they enjoy spending their time there. We interviewed some really interesting people - there was a guy selling vegan bread, a plum guy who was very adamant in saying that Trader Joe’s produce is worse that Safeway’s, and a guy running a raw food truck! Everyone had such a unique story to share with us and they were all incredibly friendly - but then again, it is SF, what else did we expect:) We even saw some really good street performers and this really adorable family with a young child just sit down in the middle of the street in front of them and just listen for a good 15 minutes. After we got back, we spent some time drafting our stories before we broke for lunch.
The rest of the day was one big blur of long classes with no breaks in between. First came a Leadership session with Mike in which we, yet again, interviewed one another to see what our true motivations in pursuing certain goals are. After that, we had a TA Presentation in which we were split off into groups and our specific group had to come up with a unique way to present the entire history of Film - we chose to take famous people over the decades in the film industry and interview them as if we were that person. It’s a good thing we were all awkward because otherwise it would not have been funny! Immediately after that was another Leadership seminar with Mike, this time called the Personality Matrix. There, we found out whether we were a Lion, a Peacock, a Koala, or an Owl. I was an Owl meaning I am more reserved and introverted, but I am also logical, analytical, reliable, punctual, and diligent. I always enjoy Mike’s speeches - he has a way of connecting to the audience to keep us all engaged and entertained. We had a quick break for dinner and then back to another TA meeting. This time we were in our separate groups and had “chill time” with each other so we finally let Mallika (she’s the one I’m with at the Farmer’s Market) tell her 30-minute joke that she has been raving about the last 2 days. although we were the ones who eagerly agreed to listen to her, we were ready to kill her by the time it was over - the 30 minutes even ran longer because we kept getting distracted by laughing at random things! And we even abridged the joke and it still ran long! Needless to say, it wasn’t worth it haha! Afterwards, we started planning out performance as a class for the talent show next week - I think we decided on a dance to Bollywood hip-hop. How that’ll work, I still don’t have a clue. There was a pizza social tonight with dancing, but I was far too exhausted to go.
Oh and I almost forgot! Kerry and I walked downtown during lunch to get our Henna tattoos and they both look so awesome! I had a girl take pictures of mine on her camera so I’ll put one up once she sends it to me:) They were so cheap that I want to go back to get more done!
